  • why is it called keukenhof?

You're not the only one wondering, we did too. So we looked it up for you! For Teylingen Castle, Countess Jacoba of Bavaria fetched vegetables and fruit from the Keukenduin in the 15th century. Shortly after, Keukenhof Castle was built with a large estate. Two landscape architects then redesigned the garden around the castle. This park still forms the basis of Keukenhof. Flower bulb growers and exporters came up with a plan in 1949 to exhibit the flower bulbs blooming in spring in the park. This is how the spring park Keukenhof was created. The event has now become an integral part of our culture, and in 2025 the 76th edition of Keukenhof will take place.
