Analytical Chemist

Start Date: ASAP

As an Analytical Chemist, you will apply your hands-on expertise in physical and chemical laboratory techniques to support our Materials Physical/Chemical Analysis activities. You will play a crucial role in solving challenges for internal customers, leveraging analytical techniques to provide valuable insights and solutions.


About Your Team

You will be part of the Philips Technical Expert Group (TEG) in Drachten, The Netherlands—a team of highly skilled experts in key competencies supporting the Personal Health and Medical Business groups.

Our Chemistry & Polymers expert group specializes in:

  • Applied Chemistry
  • Material/Chemical Analysis
  • Materials, Molding & Finishing Technologies

Working in close collaboration with product developers, industrial designers, marketing managers, external partners, and innovative suppliers, we drive technology scouting and development for Philips product categories worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support our customers in understanding complex issues related to polymer materials, processing, finishing, and applied chemistry.
  • Utilize a range of analytical techniques with a hands-on approach, working independently after appropriate onboarding.
  • Contribute to innovative problem-solving through experimental creativity.

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Proficiency in material characterization and chemical analysis techniques, including:

    • Tensile testing, Impact, Fatigue testing
    • GC-MS (essential)
    • FT-IR, Rheology, Contact Angle Measurement
    • Thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, TMA)
    • Microscopy
  • LC-MS experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent planning and problem-solving skills.
  • A team-oriented mindset, collaborating effectively to deliver optimal solutions.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education: At least a Higher Vocational (HBO) degree in Analytical Chemistry.
  • Experience: Hands-on expertise in a broad range of characterization/analytical techniques.
  • GC-MS: Strong technical knowledge and experience in method development (essential).
  • LC-MS: Knowledge and experience (preferred).
  • Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and planning abilities with an independent and proactive approach.
