You will join the Thin-Film Electronics team to develop and realize the department’s program and project portfolio in Next-Generation Battery Technology, leveraging Holst Centre’s strengths in thin and thick film process technology and related technologies. Your daily activities will be varied since you will join a multidisciplinary team that executes multiple programs and projects with partners in the academia and business in parallel. Your technical tasks will include leading and executing projects on development of advanced materials and device concepts for next-generation batteries, battery materials and components. The emphasis will be on understanding and optimizing the battery chemistry, inter-component stability and battery component production, mainly aimed at improving performance and sustainability at battery cell level.

Functie-eisen

•PhD in (Electro)chemistry, Batteries, Materials Science or related research

•Several years of experience in research & development settings in battery technology, preferably with experience in one or a combination of: materials synthesis, binder production and development, electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction, wet/dry electrode preparation, thin film technologies, battery preparation, physicochemical (XRD, Raman), morphological (SEM) and electrochemical characterization methods (impedance, galvanostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry)

•Pro-active and critical attitude towards with clear goal in mind

•Hands-on and taking responsibility, able to organize (practical) work in an efficient and cooperative way

•Excellent communication skills in English

Competenties

Your main activities will be to

•Join R&D activities on next-generation battery concepts around increasing safety, inter-component stability, battery energy and power densities while decreasing the production cost at battery cell level

•Contributing to hands-on laboratory work such as synthesis, producing electrode and electrolyte layers, building coin and pouch cells, performing physico-chemical & morphological & electrochemical measurements, and reporting results in a critical manner

•Develop and characterize new concepts for batteries based on new large-area integrated (thin film) process flows

•Support the technical program roadmap and projects in batteries by (i) managing projects by translating relevant state-of-art research topics into experimental plans and their execution together with the team members, and (ii) writing and execution funded projects in both National and European context

•File patents based on generated ideas and results

•Communicate results in internationally renowned conferences and towards Holst Centre customers

•Work in a multidisciplinary, multi-company team, supervising and coaching of team members and students
