We are currently looking for 3 bright Msc. interns for Operations - Downstream Processing, part of J&J Innovative Medicine (formerly Janssen Biologics) in Leiden.

€ 650 gross per month (based on 40 hours)

Are you a master's student, preferably in your second year, enthusiastic about business innovation and process improvement? Then we are looking for you!

You are following a MSc study (at a Dutch university) in Biotechnology, Life Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Bio-medical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology or related.

  • Available for at least 6 months;
  • Willing to work onsite in Leiden for at least 4 days;
  • Eager to learn, team-oriented and pro-active with excellent communication skills;
  • You can deal with ambiguity in a fast-changing environment.

The project will be on either business innovation or process-improvements. Examples of past projects are:

1. Introduction of new technologies: feasibility study about the introduction of an inline OD280 protein concentration testing;
2. Data analytics and visualization project: building a visual dashboard showing the live hold times of all products and equipment to present to the business;
3. Process improvement project: this project aims to reduce the amount of quality issues and/or downtime. Another project is to work on a business case to improve the cycle time of for example a column chromatography equipment;
4. Automation project: building a business case to implement the automation of a weighing and labeling system in the electronic batch record system;
5. Modeling project: using SuperPro designer to create a model in order to reduce the cycle time;
6. Communication enhancement projects: improve internal communication between the shop floor and management.

During the interview process, we will discuss in more detail the projects available at that time. In addition, you will support the documentation team one day a week in order to gain hands on experience on the shop floor.

The department:
At the department of Operations - Downstream Processing (DSP), we produce monoclonal antibodies on a large scale for the treatment of several auto-immune diseases. Continuous optimization of production processes is vital. The following processes are being used at DSP: column chromatography, ultrafiltration/ diafiltration, filtration, virus removal step and in process testing (e.g. HPLC, OD280, pH, conductivity, osmolarity).

Please keep in mind that you have to be enrolled at a (Dutch) university for the entire duration of the internship, otherwise we can't take your application into further consideration.
